Unlimited plans sell a number of days, not gigabytes. A “$3.90/day” plan bought for 7 days costs $27.30 upfront — the daily rate is the only number that compares across trip lengths.
Longer trips mean a lower daily rate
Most providers discount longer validity. The cheapest daily rate in a country is usually the 20–30 day package, not the 5-day one — our table always shows the best rate.

When is an unlimited eSIM cheaper than metered data?
Divide a country's best unlimited daily rate by its best metered $/GB and you get the break-even: how many GB per day you must actually use before unlimited pays for itself. We computed it for every country — the spread is huge.

Across the 50 countries we computed, the typical break-even sits at 2.7 GB/day. Rough rule: if you burn through more than 2.7 GB on a normal travel day (maps + music + an evening of video), unlimited is likely the cheaper side.

Cheap metered data ($0.24/GB) meets a pricier unlimited rate ($1.10/day): you would need 4.6 GB every single day before unlimited wins. Buy a big bucket here instead.
